We Choose How We Take Action
Our power comes from our ability to choose. Taking action is how we manifest our choices.
We can sit and complain about a bad situation all day, but it will not change it. Taking action is the only way to improve our situation. Mindfulness, acknowledging our situation for what it is, helps us be able to respond and adapt to it.
Deciding what needs to change is hard. Taking those first steps toward change is scary. The result of that change is worth the effort.
Journal Questions:
What do you want to change? Do you want to focus on a habit, overcoming an emotion or limiting belief, or something physical about yourself? Be specific. Once you define what you want to change, you can begin to make a plan.
What is stopping you from taking action? Is it a limiting belief, like you aren’t worthy of something better? Is it the fear of the unknown or what someone else will think? Getting clear on what is stopping you will help you be able to see how to reach the other side of the change you wish to make.
What ways can you be mindful of your reactions and your breath? How can you incorporate a word or signal to yourself to take a moment to pause so you can see the situation in front of you with a clear mind?
What small way can you adapt today? Change comes in small iterations. Define one thing that you can do (or not do) today that will move you in the direction you want to go.
We often cannot control the adversity that comes our way. However, we can control ourselves. We can choose how to respond with mindfulness. We can choose to adapt in small, effective ways. We can choose to breathe and regulate our nervous system. We can choose to take action to change our situation.
The hard thing about life is that it keeps moving and we must scramble to keep up. The beautiful thing about life is that it keeps moving. We have the power, the choice, to control ourselves.
