Twilight of Winter
The days are long, but time flies by. I can’t believe Spring is only a couple weeks away!
I notice mostly by the increase in daylight that a new season is upon us. The light is slowly balancing out the darkness. Yet here in the Pacific Northwest, there is still a chill in the air.
The cold and snow brings hardships. We tend to withdraw and turn inward during this bitter time of year. This action serves us well because we can acquire some much needed rest and perspective. Slowing down and healthy introspection helps us see what is most valuable in our lives.
The snow is melting and with it the hardships begin to thaw. We can start anew.
Transitioning into spring is like waking from a nap. This moment between asleep and awake offers an important opportunity. In the twilight of winter, we can acknowledge our transformation.
Our hibernation wasn’t as passive as it may have seemed. Under the surface we are growing and dreaming. It is time to begin defining our desires and committing to ourselves.
In winter, the trees are seemingly dead as they stand bare in the cold. Yet, they are very much alive. Under the surface the great oak is still growing, digging its roots further into the earth. It anchors itself into the earth to withstand the winter. This act also strengthens it to be sturdier throughout the year.
Like the tree, time of introspection and rest allows us to grow from within. We root ourselves in the knowledge that we can persevere through hardship. Not only do we survive the harsh cold and isolation of winter, but we gain insight and build confidence that strengthens us throughout the year.
Acknowledge this inner transformation. Know that you can set goals and reach them. You have survived winter and the hardships that come with isolation and cold. Now it is time to use your new perspective and greater understanding to thrive in your life.
