Imbolc 2021 Meditation

Imbolc 2021.jpg

Imbolc represents a season of conflicting emotions. It is the birth of spring buried deep beneath the snow of winter.

I’m feeling restless to do more. However, my body is tired and still needs rest.

These emotions are portrayed by the elements fire and water.

Fire is full of active energy, ready to progress forward and triumph. Water is composed of passive energy, moving with the flow and eager to return to a state of calm.

As opposing forces, fire and water are seemingly unable to exist together because they extinguish each other. Water douses a flame and fire melts or evaporates water. Yet, they are both important in the balance of the elements.

This strained influence, like fire and water, describes the tension I feel in this season. We are halfway through winter. Spring is on the horizon and looks very inviting. However there is still a ways to go yet.

I feel impatient with my energy pent up inside, but I still need nourishing rest for my body and mind.

If I begin to increase my movement too quickly, I will grow weary. I discovered this with my shoulder rehabilitation. So eager to regain flexibility, I set myself back when it came to increasing strength.

I don’t want to impede my momentum as spring approaches. I want to fill my cup, so I can give from the overflow as the sun warms and the buds sprout.

My Tarot cards shared great insight to this internal conflict as I pulled for my Imbolc Meditation.

I used Lisa Sterle’s Modern Witch Tarot Deck to fill a three card spread. The “Parts of the Self” was my inspiration. The first card represented my ability to maintain function. The second card represented my self-knowledge. The third card represented my interpersonal (or public) self.

Three of Swords

It feels like you can’t win. Every time you get going there’s another sword stabbing you, another obstacle to see around. It’s raining out and the clouds just won’t go away. Functioning is hard work. But you’re doing it. The path is not easy, but you will persevere. Keep going.

Four of Pentacles

All of your ideas are starting to click into place. You are aware of what you want and have begun the process of achieving it. Your feet are grounded on the floor. You have a hold of your desire and belief in yourself. You have all the pieces, now it’s time to put together the puzzle.

King of Wands

You have confidence in your ability and action. It’s time to take control and move forward in a big way. Channel your passion into energy.

This reading resonated greatly with me and magnifies my conflicting desire to go and rest.

The doing has been hard. I’m restless, stuck inside and growing tired of the damp cold. My physical therapy for my shoulder is coming along, slowly, but with more emotion that I expected.

On the other hand, my project “Balance Wholeness” is beginning to come together and gain momentum. I am excited to put the puzzle pieces together. I am confident in the idea and I will keep exploring the ways to share it adequately.

If you are feeling conflicting emotions during this season, you are not alone! Acknowledge the areas you are struggling and show yourself compassion. Get excited about the parts of you that are ready to move forward and explore how you can build foundations to be successful as you begin to act.

Channel your passion into energy.

Plant your passion in the earth like a seed. Nourish it with the soil of introspection, water of creativity, the warmth of intention. As a flower sprouts, your ideas will generate energy and blossom.

May you find contentment in rest as you nourish and revitalize yourself.
