Balancing Wholeness

I believe you can create wholeness in your life by balancing your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual states. When these parts of you are aligned, you are healthy and whole.

This is the basis of my company, Balancing Tree Press. It was only after becoming healthy and whole that I was able to finish my novel and become a published author. Now, I aim to live my life by this philosophy.

My physical practice mostly involves yoga.

Right now I am recovering from bilateral mastectomy surgery, so it also includes several rounds of physical therapy exercises each day. My focus for now is to regain my full range of motion and flexibility. I want to eventually begin strength training to further get to know my new body and gain confidence.

My mental practice is fueled by meditation.

Sitting with my thoughts is not always easy, but there is great power in understanding the source of my reactions, perceptions and feelings.  I also enjoy quotes and puzzles to keep my mind active.

My emotional practice involves journal questions and coloring books.

Writing is my personal way to understand the world and how I function in it. Through journal questions, I can look introspectively to uncover the source of my emotions and then set an intention to move forward. Coloring helps my mind relax and allows me to sit more comfortably with my thoughts.

My spiritual practice is dominated by nature and affirmations.

Spirituality for me is summed up by this quote from Neil deGrasse Tyson, “We are part of this universe; we are in this universe, but perhaps more important than both of those facts, is that the universe is in us.” Spending time in nature brings this quote to life. I witness the beauty and complexity of this amazing world we live in and find peace in the calm rhythm of the earth. Affirmations then help me remember that I am powerful, worthy and enough.

The interesting part in this balance of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health is that it overlaps all the time. I can meditate while doing yoga. Coloring helps my mental health just as much as my emotional health. Affirmations speak to my emotions. My mind is clearer when my physical body feels good. These practices are interchangeable in many ways.

I will write my ongoing narrative as I live it. I’m calling it “Balancing Wholeness.” As I chronicle my physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health practices, some may seem familiar and some unique. I am excited about this journey and sharing my experiences as I work to create wholeness in my life.
